Third

The next day I was called into the office of Sister Sarah.  Every child that received an appraisal was called for individual meetings today.  “I have reviewed your appraisal.  My job is to help you raise your stats so that when you leave the orphanage at 13 you will be prepared as possible to survive.  With your stats as low as they are, it is unlikely that you will meet the threshold to become an adventurer and the competition for field work is fierce.  I would recommend learning about your unique skill and develop your abilities with it.  I will help you on this journey and since your skill is based in enchanment I would recommend learning basic enchantment as well.  I have rented this book from the library, it only covers the basics, but it should help.”  With that she handed me a book and sent me on my way.

I took Sarah’s advice and took some time to myself to learn about my skill.  My ID card described the skill as such “Able to create an enchantment that can summon a monster to fight for you.”  I then cast status and the description of the skill read “Create an enchantment that links to your soul.  This enchantment will be able to summon a basic creature that you have killed.  By using mana you can increase the basic stats of the summon (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence).  Each increase in stats will give you an experience point to develop the skill.”

With this the only thing left was to use the skill and practice it further.  I cast the enchantment on my spirit and without specific knowledge of how to create3 enchantments, it wrote itself on my spirit as though the skill could do it all by itself.  Just one cast left me tired as it had used most of my mana supply.  I further analyzed the summon enchantment, it only had 1 point on each of its stats and from what I was yesterday, I knew that it would be useless for fighting even after increasing its stats.  If I concentrated, I was able to pull mana from the summon to restore my own mana pool and this gave me an idea.

If I created enough summons and raised their mana level then I may be able to create a mana pool big enough for myself to fight using magic.  I did not think this would be enough to join the adventurer’s guild, but it may be enough to hunt monsters to sell, eat, and survive on.  With this I had a path forward, I needed to increase my mana and learn all I could about magic and enchantments before my time at the orphanage ran out.
