“Your baptism will be next week” Sister Sarah tells a group of six-year-old children gathered in the orphanage classroom.

“The baptism is a right of passage that all six-year-olds in Rhayne will take part of, from the lowest of orphans to the lord’s children.  During the ceremony, you will be appraised by the church and given an ID with your basic stats. Any unique skills that may have developed within your soul will be determined, but hidden on your ID unless you reveal them.”  Sarah continued

“Unique skills are extremely rare, and their usefulness ranges wildly from overpowered abilities that guarantee one to be a hero of humanity to useless abilities that only mildly make life more convenient. The stats will determine your future.  High stats will allow you to be recruited to a noble’s personal military and gain citizenship. While stats low enough would mean that you are not even allowed to leave the city’s slums, but remember even if your stats are low, you still have 6 more years at the Gaian Orphanage to raise these stats before you are on your own.”

“The games we have played and lessons we have taught you thus far are meant to help raise your stats so you can successfully enter society when you become adults at 13.   Getting stats at around ten will secure you work in the fields or allow you to become an adventurer and hunt Abysskin to receive a living.  Hunting will give you more freedom and possibly allow you to gain citizenship later in life due to achievements, but it is dangerous and many people prefer to live out the life in the safety of the fields.  Stats below five are considered a failure, too weak to work the field or hunt, but never give up on living for all life is precious to the church.”
